First Day

So I am writing about my first day on my second day, because I was so tired from the first day that words became meaningless. But first I should explain what it was the first day of what. It was the first day of Americorp NCCC a government service program in which young men and women ages 18-24 decide to spend ten months of their life serving the disadvantaged of this country. Americorp is one of the few programs in government that works well and also has tangible benefits. That all being out of the way let me explain why the day was so exhausting
The day began for me at 2am  when I woke up, showered, and did some last minute packing. I was then on the road to the Pittsburgh airport at 4am to catch an 8 o'clock to Chicago. After landing in Chicago I had an hour layover before boarding a 4 1/2 hour flight to Sacremento. Fortunately, I met some fellow Americorp peeps in Chicago and ended sitting next to a pretty cool Americorp dude during the flight. After landing we had to check in with the team leaders Americorp had sent to pick us up an pick up our green duffle from the baggage claim and be driven to campus located on the retired McClellan Air Force base. Thats where all the real fun began
We dropped our bags off in front of the dorms and started the registration process. We were given a form with several stations where we were given our id badges, room keys, and info folders. Afterwards we were given several hours to settle in and buy anything we need. I did neither of those and instead met and talked to a whole bunch of people . I've met more people from more states in a couple hours then I did in my previous 20 years of my life. We then joined in what I'll call the general use building for a community meeting and dinner. Afterwards we had free reign to do as we please. I ended up in a lounge playing Apples to Apples with some other people.
I think I'm going to end with something I've learned in the program so far. The lesson I've learned most  clearly is that we all come from different backgrounds and belief systems but should share a common goal, to help others with our whole selves
